Just last week, Tuesday, March 6th to be exact, I turned 23. “Not very exciting” I was reminded time and again, and it’s true, there’s nothing particularly exciting about turning 23 as apposed to 25, for example. This year was a big year for me though, I have never celebrated a birthday quite like I have this one. I had 7 different outings/parties. SEVEN. Crazy talk I tell you, CRAZY.
First off my two very best friends whom I have know my entire life gave me the best surprise EVER on the Friday before my birthday. Ann, who lives here in the Twin Cities with me and Caitie, who lives in Iowa, got together to bring Caitie to town and surprise me. I couldn’t even believe it! I almost cried, I was so happy to have the three of us back together for this birthday. For those of you who don’t know my grandpa passed away last May and this has been an extremely difficult loss for me. My grandpa was my hero, I can’t remember a time I didn’t want to be just like him. He was the perfect example of how a man should live his life and I miss him dearly. Ann and Caitie both knew my grandpa well, so it was great to have both of them here with me to celebrate my first birthday without him.
Seriously? How beautiful are these two lovely ladies? A girl couldn’t ask for better life-long best friends. They made me cupcakes (complete with candles to blow out!) and a delicious dinner. It was absolutely fantastic. We spent the evening catching up, drinking wine and watching FRIENDS. The next day we gave Caitie a speedy tour of Minneapolis before she headed home.
Then on Sunday my brother and his girlfriend, April, took me out to The Red Stag Supper Club and it was absolutely FANTASTIC!. Oh my goodness, probably top 10 meals I’ve ever had. Since no birthday meal is complete without dessert I choose to do something a little different and went with the Pineapple Upside Down Cupcake and it was divine. If you live in, near or are visiting the cities I definitely recommend going there.
The week continued with dinner and drinks with the girls I worked with the chiro one night, and my best friend Courtney and roommate Hannah the next. The on Friday after my birthday a group of us met up for drinks and a night out. The next day my roomie Hannah and I met up with one of our good friend’s Josh and his girlfriend at Toby Keith’s where I got to drink beer out of a mason jar. A MASON JAR people, I was so excited, haha.
That night my roomie planed quite the shenanigan. There were lots of delicious cupcakes like so,
and we played lots of nerdy games like Bananagrams and The Logo Game and even a few rounds of MASH, because honestly, who doesn’t love that game?
All in all it was a whirlwind of a week. Here’s to year 23, hopefully it’s fantastic. I leave you with my favorite picture of my grandpa and I, from when he was teaching me how to ballroom dance when I was in junior high. I hope I make him proud in my 23rd year of life.
All the photos were taken with my iPhone so I apologize for lack of quality.
Happy 2012 and Happy Birthday whenever it is appropriate,
