Five Things Monday – Business Card Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

Business cards can be fickle little things. It’s fascinating how one 2in x 3.5in piece of paper can make or break your business. I’m glad we’re starting to see more and more innovative solutions towards their design and function. Here are some of my current favorites…

1. I love the idea of having multiple backgrounds. (source)

2. I adore the square trend and the use of letterpress texture on this card if fantastic. (source)

3. I have the biggest girl crush on Jessica Hische, so it’s only natural that I adore her business card as well. (source)

4. How captivating is this watercolor treatment? LOVE. (source)

5. This is such a brilliant and creative solution to a business card. I love seeing things like this! (source)

Five Things Monday – Haikuglyphics Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

One of my favorite graphic designer, Anne Ulku, has a new weekly project in collaboration with Michael Derus called Haikuglyphics. Michael writes the haiku and then Anne creates the type/design treatment. Here are 5 of my favorites.

NUMBER 1:
Haikus are easy
Just think of 5 then 7
Then 5 syllables

NUMBER 2:
You ever notice
How kids don’t make ash trays in
Art class any more?

NUMBER 3:
I think that there are
Three kinds of people out there
Not sure which three though

NUMBER 4:
A wise man once said
Absolutely nothing
It was for the best

NUMBER 5:
Have you ever dreamed
Of soaring high like a bird?
Well you can’t so stop.

Five Things Monday – Earth Day Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

Today is Earth Day so I thought I’d share 5 earth related things I’m in love with lately.

1. I love the idea of making concrete planters. That way each one can be the perfect size and unique to your garden, though granted, slightly heavy. (source)

2. I love adore idea for growing herbs. It’s perfect for a kitchen wall that gets good sunlight! (source)

3. I’ve considered making this “living picture” for my desk; I think it’s such a fun idea to add plants to any room. (source)

4. This is fantastic! Planters can take up much more soil than is needed, so lining the bottom with peanuts, leaves, etc will save space and money. I’m definitely doing this, this year. (source)

5. This year for my seeds I bought a seed starting kit, but I think next year I might try this idea instead. (source)

Five Things Monday – Mint Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

I am seriously in LOVE with the mint trend for this spring. I tend to try to avoid getting too wrap up in trends but this is one I can’t resist, in any aspect of my life.

1. How absolutely devine is this dress? If only I lived a lifestyle where I got to wear fancy dresses like this once and awhile. (source)

2. Oh my, do I need this bag! Not that I need another bag, but I just really, really need this one. (source)

3. This watch makes my heart go pitter-patter. (source)

4. I’m not sure I love mint enough to paint my entire house mint, but it sure is beautiful. (source)

Five Things Monday – Wall Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

One of my favorite parts of home decor is wall treatments! Here are some of my favorites that I’ve found around the interwebs.

1. Why have a cool tile backsplash when you can just have you entire kitchen one giant, bright, awesome, backsplash? (source)

2. I love this twist on an accent wall. Use the same color on all walls but put a pattern on one wall, love it! (source)

3. This is a bit more of an undertaking, but I love the idea of repeating an important phrase over and over again. (source)

4. This cross-stitch wall design is absolutely fantastic! (source)

5. This design is actually made from vinyl so you could easily peel it off to switch out the colors or do a completely new design. I love the flexibility of that! (source)

I love to travel. I hope that one day my life will be full of experiences vs ‘things’. Last year Hannah and I went to Colorado, this year I’m headed down to North Carolina to visit a friend. For now my experiences are state bound, mainly due to financial reasons, but I hope to get across the pond really soon. Here are some places I would love to experience.

Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. We interrupt your regular programing of “Five Things Monday” for “Four Things Monday.” Mainly because I’m about to share with your four lengthy videos, and I didn’t want to take up half your day.

I adore J.K Rowling, no surprise there, right? She is just such an incredible inspiration and role model! Her story is one of the purest forms of determination, creativity and not giving up on the things you love. Here are 4 videos of her I could watch everyday.

Five Things Monday – DIY Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

I’m all about a good DIY. I love the feeling of accomplishment that comes from making something yourself. Here are some of my current favorite DIY’s.

1. This deck cooler is brilliant! So much nicer looking that just having that ugly blue cooler sitting on your nicely decorated deck. My parent’s have a mini fridge on their deck, that’s inside a cabinet my dad built. (source)
