Tuesday Tip – #5 – Motivation

Tuesday Tip is brought to you from a desire to increase my knowledge of all things fitness, weight loss and health. My challenge for 2013 is to post one tip a week. Hopefully this will help me in my weight loss journey and others who search to live a more knowledgeable life.

Sometimes when it comes to weightloss you just need a good motivation phrase. All the information, tips, science, etc are incredibly helpful but sometimes it’s more than knowing all of that. Here are some quotes I’ve enjoyed…

Five Things Monday – [Christmas] Card Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

I love getting mail, so naturally the holiday season always makes me smile when I open the mailbox. My family has never been the Christmas card sending type, but many of our family friends are and it’s always fun to see what they come up with each year. Here are some of my favorite holiday card inspirations this year.

1. I love the idea of using a photo with simple type on top. (source)

2. For some it’s all about the written note inside so a standard card is a perfect fit and I am in love with all things Rifle Paper Company for that. (source)

3. I’m a sucker for a good illustration and a great silhouette and I love this one. (source)

4. This card from FAME and Studio On Fire cracks me up. “Gentleman, tame your mustaches!” It’s brilliant, haha! (source)

5. This is a great idea for anyone who’s had an exciting year, or has lots of relatives they need to give an update too. (source)

I’m a quote person, are you? I love a good inspirational, witty or I-think-this-person-is-looking-into-my-soul quote. I’ve filled notebooks, post it notes and social media sites with them. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Julia Child (source)

2. Unknown (source)

Five Things Monday – Dog Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

I love dogs, and I know that all sorts of people say that but I love dogs. Every time someone walks past our house with a dog (which is about ever 10 minutes) or I see someone with a dog I instantly turn to mush and utter the words “look, look, look! He’s soooo cute! I want it!” If you think I’m lying ask my roommate Hannah, she will confirm the annoyance I cause her every time a dog walks past us. Since hardly any of these require an explanation  I leave you with five adorable, and hilarious photos for your morning.

Five Things Monday – Pretty Things Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

I’m an accessories girl from way back. I don’t buy a lot of patterned shirts, or funky dresses. I tend to gravitate towards the basic cuts and solid colors because THEN, your possibilities for accessorizing are ENDLESS, and thats the best part.

1. I’m really into teal this year, and this earrings are to die for. (source)

2. I’m not big on pastels, but this necklace makes my heart go pitter patter. (source)

3. Be still my beating heart. Look at these beauties! I’m not one of those girls who knows exactly what style engagement ring she wants, I just can’t choose! I would love, above all else, for my ring to be vintage, that would be amazing. Which of these is your favorite? (source)

4. How, freaking, adorable are these bow shoes? Baby blue for me please! (source)

5. Last year my parents got me this bag for Christmas and I absolutely LOVE it. I carry it daily as my computer bag for work, but when the roomie and I went to Colorado it worked great for carrying my camera and all our miscellaneous stuff. (source)

I’m not totally sure where my pure unadulterated love for crafting came from, whether it was all those years at Summer Camp or making homemade cards with my mom in our old basement, but wherever I got it, I couldn’t be more thankful. Here’s 5 crafty ideas I’m in love with right now.

1. This idea from A Beautiful Mess to create your our photo filters to use directly when shooting is brilliant. (source)

2. I’m smitten when this idea for outdoor lighting, but I’m even tempted to use it indoors.  (source)

3. There are so many options for this glass etching technique that I can’t figure out which one to try first! (source)

4. With all the different ways to apply patterns to things these days, I absolutely adore this idea of using a rolling pin. (source)

5. Now this is one technique I need to apply to my life pronto; my yarn basket is a tangled web of chaos!  (source)

Five Things Monday – Calendar Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

Calendars are a beautiful thing. With influx of internet calendars, calendars on all of our mobile devices, and desktop calendar applications we probably all have, you would think that the non-digital calendars would slowly begin to disappear, yet they’re becoming more and more creative and beautiful.

1. I love this Chalkboard Calendar. Such a fun idea for a kitchen or mud room! I especially love all the different shades of grey to block off the different days.  (source)

2. I have recently become obsessed with washi tape, have you? I adore this idea of using different colors to coordinate multiple day events.  (source)

3. While this particular calendar doesn’t pose a lot of event keeping functionality, my oh my is it beautiful! (source)

4. I so want to do this! I’m already one of those people who keeps all sorts of important and sentimental pieces of paper, pictures, etc. but organizing them by month like this would just make it that much better! (source)

5. How adorable are all these different ‘sleeping’ spoons?! (source)

Five Things Monday – Color Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

Color is a wonderful thing. It can affect any situation, and oh-so powerfully. Here are some of my favorite color-inspiring images.

1. I love the look of this bathroom! Too much color in a small room can often give off a dizzy or unpleasant feeling. I love the idea of pairing one bold color with white. (source)

2. How fun is this kitchen? I love to open shelves, but more than that I LOVE the tile! It reminds me so much of Costa Rica, it’s absolutely beautiful and the color combo is just perfect. (source)

3. I’m not generally a fan of too much pink, but I absolutely adore this panting. The colors are just perfect and make me wish I was laying on a beach somewhere drinking an extremely girly and fruity drink. (source)

4. I love all the different colors this watercolor technique produces.  (source)

5. Texture is one thing to give this image the right look and feel, but the colors they used really seals the deal for me. (source)

Five Things Monday – Laugh Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

We interrupt your weekly program of Five Things Monday for this very special Edition of Ten Things Monday. Sometimes you just need a good laugh, so today I hope to provide you with none other than just that. Whether you just chuckle or fall on the floor laughing, I hope one of these “Things” brings you at least a little joy on this Monday.

1. FRIENDS is my all time favorite show. I’ve seen every episode, at least 10 times. Here are some of my favorite moments:

2. If you’re not watching New Girl, you need to start – RIGHT NOW! So freaking funny! Zooey Deschanel is perfect it in and Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris are comedic gold as her roommates. My roommate Hannah and I have seriously considered getting a bigger place just so we could have some guy roommates move in. Full episodes can viewed at the Fox website and Hulu. Below is one of my favorite parts from the pilot:

3. Psych is one of those shows that makes me wish I had cable, but thank GOD for Hulu. Seriously, Jesus himself came up with Hulu, I’m convinced of it.

4. I’m not a big watcher of The Office (I know, I know, you can start throwing stones at any time…) but this meme always cracks me up.

5. If you know me you know I love Harry Potter, if you don’t, hey, I love Harry Potter! So naturally the following images just crack me up.

If you don’t understand the “What the Hell is a Hufflepuff” image it’s because you’ve probably never watched Starkid‘s A Very Potter Musical or A Very Potter Sequel, and if you haven’t then you should watch those right when you’re finished watching New Girl. If you’re a Glee fan you will be delighted to discover that Darren Criss himself plays Harry and wrote the music for them.

I adore Daniel Radcliffe’s sense of humor, as shown in the image with him and Michael Gambon at the bottom. Enjoy.

6. I could watch Tangled every.single.day. I absolutely love it! Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore are absolutely fantastic in it. Last time I checked you could watch it on Netflix, don’t hurt me if this isn’t true anymore; it’s worth buying either way.

7. Who doesn’t love Baby Mama? Seriously, if you haven’t watched this either add it to the list. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are the perfect duo.

8. Another little fun fact about me is that I LOVE Mark Wahlberg, probably borderline an unhealthy amount. This is one of my favorite Marky Mark moments, as seen in The Other Guys.

9. Just incase I haven’t already convinced you that you need to watch New Girl here are a couple of hilarious clips. Also, I would really like to know how to play True American, because it seems like a riot. (source)

10. Who doesn’t love Ellen DeGeneres? The stuff she pulls on her show cracks me up. Here are two of my favorite recent show clips. (source)

(p.s. shhhhhhh I know that technically this is twelve things but I just couldn’t decided between the New Girl and Ellen clips.)

Five Things Monday – Fashion Edition

Welcome to “Five Things Monday.” As a graphic designer I thrive on inspiration, I try to look for it and find it everywhere. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up when you’re starting or stuck on a project. Some people need an extra cup of coffee on Mondays, I need a little extra jolt of inspiration (and lets be honest, that extra cup of coffee as well).

While I will be the first to admit that I am not the ‘girliest’ (did I just make up a word?) person in the world, I really do love fashion. I do believe it to be an art form, all the different styles, colors, fabrics, shapes, sizes, etc. It’s just a never ending pool of creativity and options.

1. What don’t I love about this dress? Nothing. I love the color, the top, and the fact that it appears to have pockets(!!!). Now if only I had an event fancy enough to wear it to. (source)

2. This anthropology dress is adorable, and perfect for summer! If only it wasn’t unavailable… (source)

3. Man, if I could afford this dress I would wear it every day! Which is why I shouldn’t buy it because then I would feel obligated to wear it everyday because I spent so much on it and I would end up living in some painful world like Monica and her boots. (source)

4. I was stunned when I found out that this scalloped dress is actually a DIY – adding it to my list of things to-do PRONTO. (source)

5. How fun is this dress? I’m not a huge fan of black and orange together, so I kind of wish it was still in a different color combo, but I still love it. (source)

All of these images can also be found on my Pinterst Board – Fashion.
